Financial integrity
The guiding principles of the TYTW project are financial accountability and quality assurance. In this regard a detailed budget for each school project is negotiated and is expended under the co-ordination of the Building and Wood Workers’ International representatives in India. The financial accounts are independently audited annually in India and in Australia by independent auditors.
All monies donated in Australia are sent to India, every cent in every dollar. Not one cent is spent on administration in Australia.
Of course, building and initially operating schools does not come cheaply. To build a school for approximately 150 students and 6 teachers costs around $150,000 Australian dollars. However, compared to what this would cost in Australia to build the same school, it is very reasonable. Ongoing donor costs to support the three schools, including teachers’ salaries, uniforms and other facilities for the students, costs approximately $50,000 AUD a year.
